Zuzana Paulova and Tomáš Paul from Czehia wins WCT Latvian Mixed Doubles Curling Cup II of season 2024/2025 – CONGRATULATIONS! It is the second time when this team wins the tournament. Previous time was in 2021.
There were teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, India, Poland and Czehia in the field. All teams were divided in 4 groups and after round-robin games best two teams from each group kept fighting for the podium.
Z.Paulova / T.Paul (CZE) finished round-robin with no losses and earned the spot in the quarter-final. Latvian team won A.Rykove / K.Rykov (LTU 1) in the quarter-final with results 8:3 in only six ends. Team from Czehia played semi-final against team from Latvia S.Blumberga-Bērziņa / A.Veidemanis. Zuzana and Tomáš controlled almost all game and won it with score 10:6. The final was in favor of Czech team. After 5 ends Latvian team K.Gaidule / R.R.Buncis (LAT 5) took the lead with 7:5. But then Zuzana and Tomáš take control step by step. At the begining they took one point and reduced the difference in result to a minimum. Then they stole 2 points and 1 point in the eight end.
After the final game Zuzana Paulova said: I want to thank you all, especially ice-makers, the ice was great, actually that’s why we came. We knew that the ice here will be great as always. That’s why we prefer Riga as the end of season for us. Thanks to organizers who are here with us and we absolutly loved tournament is played with thinking time. It really helped especially if you are preparing for the Worlds. Not us, unfortunately. But for the other teams it must be super great. Good luck to Latvian team for the Worlds. And thank you for the great final. Thank you so much!
Game for bronze was intense. S.Hausstätter / S.Svorkmo-Lundberg from Norway was playing against Latvian team S.Blumberga-Bērziņa / A.Veidemanis. Teams were taking by one point and nobody took more than one point lead. Only in the last eight end Latvian team manage to score 2 points playing with hammer and won the whole game with the result 5:4.
